What We Do
The Tech Alumni Association supports and promotes the mission of the organization through various committees. The Scholarship Committee seeks financial support from alumni which is then invested to generate funds to provide scholarships to the current Tech graduating class. The committee evaluates the credentials of candidates and conducts interviews to determine the scholarship recipients. The Finance Committee manages the funds of the ATHS Alumni Endowment. Through this committee, monetary grants are provided to teachers of Tech High School. The monies purchase educational supplies and equipment used in classrooms. Additionally students may request funds to support educational trips sponsored by the school.
Beyond the work done for current Tech students, the Alumni Association provides an annual event at Tech High School each June for graduates. At the event, alumni may visit the campus to see the changes which have taken place at Tech High School through the years. Lunch is offered and a business meeting and an awards presentation occur.
The Alumni Association provides awards to alumni several times each year. The awards recognize various accomplishments of alumni after they leave Tech High School. The awards include:
- Distinguished Alumnus - The Arsenal Technical High School Distinguished Alumnus Award is given annually to a maximum of twelve living Tech graduates who have been successful in various aspects of life, served as a good role model, made contributions to Tech High School, their community or nation and/or continued an interest in the education process.
- Duane Blankenhorn Award - Duane Blankenhorn was a 1952 graduate of Tech, a teacher, counselor, and a dedicated long time member of the Arsenal Technical Alumni Board, serving in a number of capacities. This award, established in 2002, to honor Duane, is given to an ATHS Alumni Board member who has served on the board for at least 5 years as an officer or in a position of responsibility.
- Hanson H. Anderson Award - Hanson H. Anderson was one of the eight original faculty members when Tech opened in 1912. He later became Head of the Math Department and was Principal from 1937 to 1958. While at Tech, he built a reputation for excellence, both professionally, and personally. His ideals were the highest, his leadership confident, his discipline firm and his friendship warm and abiding. He was respected and beloved by faculty and students alike, as he pursued the goal of developing in Tech, a high school that would prepare students for both advanced education and life’s experiences.
- Honorary Graduate - An Honorary Tech Graduate Award is given periodically to one or more people who did not attend or graduate from Tech High School, but have made significant contributions to Tech High School and/or to the ATHS Alumni Association.

Recipients must have had a positive influence on Tech in many aspects, worked with students, or made contributions in several other areas.

After graduating from college and serving in the military, Wally returned to his beloved Tech to work for 31 years as a teacher and a coach. To commemorate Wally’s contributions to Tech High School while a faculty member and as an alumnus, the ATHS Alumni Association has named an award in his honor.
